Description
“..Only 10 % of EU SMEs own at least a trade mark, design, patent or any other type of IP right. More than 1/3 see no benefits in protecting their IP assets..” according to EUPIO (European Union Intellectual Property Office) recent announcement dated 28 September 2022. You may find the outlined reasons of not owning IP right in the link below.
Top two reasons are “I see no additional benefits” with 35% and “Intellectual asset not innovative enough” with 20%.
Then I say to myself that it is no wonder why we, specialized IP lawyers and attorneys, are still struggling with Turkish SMEs having a similar mindset and sweating in convincing them to shift their minds on the apparent benefits of owning IP rights relevant to their lines of work.
